The state of Tennessee's venture into health care should be an example for Congress as it embarks on a national program of public care. The experiment to expand Tennessee's Medicaid by 500,000 in its initial plan eventually ran into trouble. By 2005, the state was near insolvency. This lead to the state reducing its rolls by 170,000. The escalation of cost is inevitable when something is 'free', or, if these government plans try to cover everyone.
The Wall Street Jounal has the details on the Tennessee Health Care Plan (TennCare).
