The Economists has its take on the blunder of imposing tariffs on Chinese tires. This analysis considers the economic and political ramifications of the Obama administration's error in placing tariffs on foreign products during a recession. It does appear, as the Economist points out, that the Administration has caved to the pressure of a single union and ignored the implications to the general economy or to the relationships with our trading partners.
